Today marks the International Day of Anti-Corruption. The United Nations designate the 9th of December each year as Anti-Corruption day to raise awareness about the menace. Reaffirming our commitment to fighting graft, Freetown Terminal today, just as for the past years, celebrated this day to increase awareness amongst our staff and customers.
Corruption affects all countries and institutions. It undermines democratic institutions, slows economic development and contributes to governmental and institutional instability.
Corruption attacks the foundation of institutions by disrupting functionality, stalling the growth of institutions by creating bureaucratic quagmires whose only reason for existing is the soliciting of bribes.
For this and many other reasons, we take issues of corruption very seriously and we have a zero tolerance for any form of corruption.
As a company, we have a dedicated department (Compliance unit) to deal with issues related to corruption. That is how much we are committed.
As we celebrate or commemorate this day, we encourage other institutions (private or public) to take part in this kind global celebration by raising awareness about it.
